News Flash – men and women are different. And unfortunately ladies, when it comes to losing weight and burning fat men do tend to have an easier time of it then you do. Here’s why. Testosterone the male hormone that causes hair growth, deeper voices and other male primary and secondary sexual characteristics also regulates muscle mass.
Men generally and biologically speaking, have greater muscle mass, and can build greater muscle mass easier because of the higher testosterone levels – and the higher your muscle mass the quicker and easier you burn fats.
Women not only have the lower testosterone levels, but on the other hand female hormones tend to make the body retain fat. Any couple that has trained side by side or have entered a weight loss program together will tell you that the man always takes weight off quicker than the woman.
Women also have a harder time eating healthy and staying healthy because of the images of super thin woman bombarded at them on a regular basis. These models and celebs may be thin – but they are far from healthy – and trying to emulate them, can put a woman on a downward spiral to poor health. Constant attempts to slim down with crazy diets, or near starvation actually trains a woman's body to reflexively hang on to fat, making in even harder to lose weight, and so women will tend to eat even less of even the right foods.
Instead for women and men, recent studies have shown that healthy eating of a diet low in fats and rich in fiber, vegetables and whole grains, when combined with regular exercise – 2- 3 hours day 4 days a week, leads to healthy weight loss improved body image, more strength energy and self –esteem.
Healthy weight loss and weight management means especially for women means changing our goals. Weight loss for women today - and everyone for that matter - should mean more than moving toward an idealized body shape – it means learning how to eat right and live right to improve overall health and fitness.
